[ It's almost closing time at the shop. The last few customers are starting to filter out, and Archer, it seems, is in the midst of doing some clean up.
He looks up from what he's doing when Saber comes in and acknowledges her with a brief glance.
Then he's back to working. She only has to wait a little while from everyone else to leave, though, at which point he addresses her from over the counter. ]
Thank you for coming on such short notice. I won't keep you here too long.
Oh, China - I think we've tried some of their cuisine before...
[ She has samples so much in her time here and she never tires of it. She leans forward with a curious expression as he starts to prepare the chili oil. ]
I understand that chilis have a particular heat to them...
[ In a small pot, add the Sichuan peppercorns, cinnamon stick, star anise, and oil. Over medium low heat, slowly heat to 325 degrees Fahrenheit, and then turn off the heat. Wait 6-7 minutes, then remove the peppercorns, cinnamon stick, and star anise with a slotted spoon...
He doesn't say much out loud, but marks of his mental checklist at he goes. ]
Yes - I find that's very true of this era. Although in my own time, as you know, we didn't have much of that. The food in my court was... nutritious. But also quite bland at times.
[ Don't ask how they got potatoes, just roll with it. ]
So I've enjoyed all the chances I have to try new cuisine. Especially yours, I have to say.
I am sure the ingredients for more varied foods were difficult to come by.
[ Add the crushed red pepper flakes and allow them to steep in the hot oil. It should start smelling fragrant, almost like popcorn. Allow the oil to cool--
Her final comment interrupts his train of thought, and there is a brief pause. Then- ]
I'm glad you like it. Though I will say, it wasn't necessarily my intention to start working here.
[ In a wok, heat a teaspoon of oil over medium heat, and brown the ground pork.
Focused as he is on his work, the question still makes his eyebrow twitch. ]
I would rather not say. [ It still annoys him thinking about how Lancer conned him into this job by saying Shirou would be better at it than him. ] Suffice to say, he was...persuasive.

It's no trouble. I'm happy to help.
[ And taste some delicious food, hopefully. ]
What is it you're working on?
no subject
I am trying to perfect a recipe - specifically with regards to how much spice may be needed.
I already have the ingredients on hand so...I just need to make it. And you can tell what may be missing.
[ The likelihood anything will be missing or lacking is very slim, but all the same...he wants to be sure. ]

[ She leans forward a little, a glint in her eye. ]
I will accept this duty without hesitation! If I can help, allow me!
[ Saber, it's just taste-testing. ]

I'll get started, then.
[ He starts pulling out all the ingredients. ]
Tonight, I'll be making dan dan noodles.
[ Hopefully, you like spicy, Chinese food, Saber. ]

Dan dan noodles, I see... the ingredients look quite delicious.
[ Although she's confident that in his hands anything will be fabulous. ]
What part of the world do they come from?

[ He continues to lay everything out in a very precise, exacting fashion. ]
First, I'll make the chili oil.
[ Which he proceeds to do, very professionally. ]
